Case Study: Health Promoting Schools Filmmaking Programme

Client: Leisure and Learning Department, North Lanarkshire Council
Project: Health Promoting Schools Filmmaking Programme

Overview:

A series of creative film schools delivered to 4 North Lanarkshire based primary schools. Each film school lasted for 1 week with the young people learning the various skills involved in video production including scriptwriting, storyboarding, camera skills, sound recording, directing, drama and editing. The young people then scripted, filmed and directed their very own short films with minimal assistance from the tutors.

The project produced 4 excellent peer educational films based on the theme of health promotion and covering important issues such as healthy eating, exercise and bullying. ‘Dear Diary’ produced by St Timothy’s, Coatbridge was also screened at the Co-operative Young Film-Makers Festival in Bradford.

fps media has worked with NLC Learning & Leisure Services on a number of wide ranging projects since 2002. The quality of the end product is always first class but more important is the time and effort all their staff take to involve the young people in the whole process from start to finish. The young people get a fantastic experience and are able to contribute to an excellent resource. I would thoroughly recommend them. They take a great pride in their work – you will not be disappointed.
